Valgerdur Rúnarsdóttir is born in 1978 in Reykjavík, Iceland. She studied at the National Dance School of Iceland and then continued her studies at The Statens Ballet Högskole in Oslo, graduating in 1998.
She worked as a freelance dancer in Iceland and Oslo until she joined Iceland Dance Company in 2002. There she worked with choreographers such as Rui Horta, Roberto Olivani, Ed Wubbe and Erna Ómarsdóttir. Valgerður is now working freelance in Belgium and Iceland.
Valgerður has also been working as a choreographer and is a part of a creative duo called Vaðall with Aðalheiður Halldórsdóttir. They participated in Iceland Dance Company’s Choreographic Workshop in the spring of 2006 and later that year they premiered their first full-length piece for the company, To Each His Own. Vaðall was nominated for the choreography for To Each His Own from The Icelandic Theater Academy and Valgerður also received a nomination as the dancer of the year 2007.
At the moment Valgerður is working with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and dancing in his recent work, Origine, which has been touring Europe for the last two years. Valgerður also participated in the creation of Erna Ómarsdóttirs latest work Teach Us To Outgrow Our Madness which was premiered at Les Antipodes ‘09 dance festival in Brest, France.
